Remedial Massage Therapy Springfield Lakes
What Is A Remedial Massage?
A remedial treatment at our Springfield Orion clinic has a specific clinical outcome. We aim to ‘Remedy’ the situation, by locating the source of dysfunction. Each session is focused on restoring function, reducing pain and restriction to improve movement and range of motion in joints muscles ligaments and tendons. Normally only 2 to 3 areas of the body can be addressed per session with a priority for the top 1 or 2 as a focus.
What Will I Experience During A Remedial Massage?
You will fill in a history form and sign a consent form, we ask you about your health goals and determine if remedial massage will assist you with this.
An assessment of the area of concern and your posture in general will be conducted through special orthopaedic tests to determine the source of the concern. We document the findings and design a treatment plan for you to help you as fast as possible.
You may need to be seated, on your front or your back or even lay on your side. We will show you home care stretches and exercise to help you reach your goals faster. You may not get more than 30 mins “touch time” with a remedial massage as we do lots of assessments, demonstrations, talking and moving around. Your second appointment will be booked as per therapists instructions at the end of the session to ensure consistency for your treatment plan.
Your second appointment may be different from your first and subsequent appointments as we get to know your body better.

How Is This Different From A Swedish Relaxation Massage?
Remedial massage is not as relaxing, it aims to focus only on a few areas of pain or restriction ie, hips and shoulders or feet and hips. Or a specific disorder such as Migraine or tension headaches, musculoskeletal disorders such as postural dysfunction and arthritis, brain disorders like cerebral palsy, autoimmune disorders like fibromyalgia and metabolic disorders such as diabetes. If you would like something more relaxing, please take a look at our Relaxation Massage information here.
How Will I Feel After A Remedial Massage?
You will feel great! You will wonder why you waited so long to book in. Results can be felt within minutes to hours with a sensation of instant relief. Side effects are not very common however, following a few hours you may have a bruised feeling where the pressure was applied, this is expected and will be explained in the consent form. Normally there is little or no bruising however it may feel slightly tender. This tenderness will dissipate over 3 days.
You may experience a headache and be thirsty. This is a normal reaction to toxins being mobilised in the tissues, especially for those who have not been massaged before or those who have lots going on. The next day you should feel much better.
For any concerns, you may get in touch with us for further advice.
